ViewBrew Crew

At Riverview Gardens High School, scholars are receiving invaluable real-world work experience that will shape their future beyond the classroom.

The ViewBrew Crew program is a course that prepares juniors and seniors for the workforce by providing voluntary on-campus job opportunities. Scholars develop essential job skills such as punctuality, appropriate work attire and communication.

The scholars learn important work and life skills by taking and preparing drink orders for RGHS staff and students. They also clean and maintain the equipment. Through the Brew Crew, scholars build skills in team collaboration and workplace stamina.

he scholars are learning how to become baristas. They deliver drinks to the classrooms. Staff members can order coffee, lattes, tea, hot chocolate, lemonade or other beverages. Students learn teacher’s favorite drinks and build strong connections.

“The Brew Crew is amazing!” stated Dominic LeNoir, an RGHS math instructor. “It allows the participants to build positive relationships with staff and other students. It helps to give them a sense of belonging.”

“Everyone knows the Brew Crew,” Lenoir added.

“The program collects data on scholars’ progress and aims to help them transition into post-secondary employment options, such as vocational programs or community-based supported employment,” stated instructor Quintana Harris.

The funds raised by the program are reinvested in to program to purchase supplies. Harris is hopeful that the ViewBrew Crew can eventually purchase new furniture and provide a more authentic cafe-like environment for ViewBrew staff and patrons.
